The kitchen of Celebrity Infinity cruise ship

On the Celebrity Infinity they organised a tour in the kitchen. Knowing that they have to serve a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner, almost 20 hours a day buffets, and have a speciality restaurant. There are 2.000 guests and 950 crew members, they all have to eat. Preparing meals is the task of 120 chefs and they serve 22.000 plates a day. It is amazing that the quality is very good. We are critical when it comes to restaurants and we were impressed. Our next cruise is also going to be with Celebrity.

Op het Celebrity Infinity cruise schip hebben we kunnen deelnemen aan een rondleiding in de keukens. Wetende dat zij onbijt, lunch en avondeten a la carte serveren, de buffeten zijn 20 uur per dag beschikbaar, en ze hebben een specialiteiten restaurant. Er zijn 2.000 gasten en 950 bemanningsleden, ze moeten allemaal eten. 120 koks zijn verantwoordelijk voor het klaarmaken van 22.000 schotels per dag. Het is verbazingwekkend dat de kwaliteit enorm goed is. We zijn nogal kritisch als het op restaurants aankomt maar we waren onder de indruk. Onze volgende cruise zal ook met Celebrity zijn.

Restaurant New Mexico, Leuven

After 31 restaurant articles, we regret to have to write a very negative evaluation. This restaurant in the Muntstraat was for us terrible. We found the food not good, the chilli con carne was prepared with the wrong meat, and our main courses were sour, and tasted terrible. From the two starters and the two main courses we almost returned everything. The soft drinks were served in very small glasses. A place where we will never go back.

Na 31 restaurant artikelen, moeten we tot onze spijt ons eerste zeer negatieve evaluatie schrijven. Dit restaurant in de Muntstraat was voor ons afschuwelijk. We vonden het eten niet lekker, de Chilli Con Carne was klaargemaakt met het verkeerde vlees, onze hoofdgerechten waren zuur, en smaakten vreselijk. Van de twee voorgerechten en de twee hoofdgerechten ging bijna alles terug naar de keuken. De frisdranken werden geserveerd in zeer kleine glaasjes. Een restaurant waar we nooit meer terug gaan.

Denny’s, large choice at modest prices, Fort Lauderdale

Denny’s a restaurant chain in the USA, specialising in breakfast but it doesn’t stop there. We visited their restaurant in Fort Lauderdale before we started our cruise. They offer a large choice of dishes at budget prices. The restaurant is open 24 hours. Can you imagine that in Europe?

Denny’s is een restaurantketen in de Verenigde Staten die zich specialiseert in ontbijt, maar ook voor andere maaltijden. Vlak voor de start van onze cruise, hebben we één van hun restaurants bezocht in Fort Lauderdale. Ze bieden een groot keuzemenu tegen zeer lage prijzen. Het restaurant is 24 uur per dag open. Zie je dit al mogelijk in Europa?

Dinner at Oishi, Orlando, Japanese Cuisine

To have some variety, we have selected a Japanese restaurant for our evening meal. The restaurant named Oishi is located on 11025 International Drive, Orlando, almost across the road to SeaWorld. The owner was very friendly and the food is of good quality. The restaurant is certainly not expensive. We took the sushi Love Boat, very appropriate because we our going on a Cruise. Together with our main course we got a salad and Miso soup. The Sushi was good but far too big for two persons. We got 28 pieces of sushi and 18 of sashimi for 59 dollar (including the soup and salad). If you like sushi, we can recommend this restaurant, it serves excellent price quality products. Don’t expect top range fish for this price.

Om wat afwisseling te hebben, kozen we deze keer een Japans restaurant voor het avondeten. Het restaurant Oishi is gelegen op 11025 International Drive te Orlando, bijna tegenover SeaWorld. De eigenares was zeer vriendelijk en het eten was van goede kwaliteit. We kozen voor de “Love Boat”, wat toepasselijk is daar we op een Cruise vertrekken. Samen met ons hoofdgerecht kregen we een Miso soep en een slaatje. De Sushi schotel was te groot voor 2 personen. We kregen 28 stuks sushi en 18 stuks sashimi voor 59 dollar (inclusief de soep en sla). Als je van sushi houdt, kunnen we dit restaurant aanbevelen, het biedt een uitstekende prijs/kwaliteitsverhouding. Verwacht echter geen top selectie vis voor deze prijs.

Perkins, a family restaurant and Bakery - Breakfast

Perkins is a Restaurant chain in the USA which specialises in breakfast. We really like to restaurant because it has an extensive menu. Anything you can think of for breakfast you find there: eggs, quiche, sandwiches, melts, burgers, cakes, pancakes, waffles, … The restaurants have a classic, simple and warm interior. It is a place we would recommend.

Perkins is een restaurantketen in de Vereningde Staten dat zich specialiseert op ontbijt. We houden van het restaurant daar de menukaart zeer uitgebreid is. Alles wat je kan bedenken voor ontbijt vind je hier: eieren, quiche, broodjes, melts (tostis), hamburgers, taarten, pannenkoeken, wafels, ... De restaurants hebben een klassieke, eenvoudige en warme uitstraling. We kunnen het zeker aanbevelen.

Outback, our favourite restaurant chain in the USA

Outback Steakhouse Restaurants can be found anywhere in the USA. They offer good quality food at modest prices. Our favourite dishes are the tuna appetiser, the walk-a-bout-soup, the spare ribs on the barbie, sirloin steak in combination with lobster tail, and some other plates. This is probably the restaurant that we visit the most in America. We really enjoy it. This time it was in Orlando.

Outback Steakhouse Restaurants kan je overal vinden in de Verenigde Staten. Ze bieden goede kwaliteit aan tegen modale prijzen. Onze favoriete schotels zijn: het voorgerecht van tonijn, de walk-a-bout-soup, de ribbetjes van de grill, de filet pur in samenspel met kreeft, en enkele andere gerechten. Dit is waarschijnlijk het restaurant dat we het meest bezoeken wanneer we in Amerika zijn. Deze keer was het in Orlando.

Shirasagi, a Japanese Restaurant in Den Haag

The Japanese restaurant Shirasagi in the "Stadhouderslaan" in "Den Haag" is one of our favourite restaurants of the city. It is already listed for many years in the Michelin Guide. The interior is modern, simple and somewhat cold. The food is very good. We personally like the Sashimi and the Sushi. Sometimes we also try warm dishes like the King Crab or Wagyu beef. The wagyu is a traditional Japanese high quality beef from massaged cows which makes the meat more tender.

Het Japans restaurant Shirasagi in de Stadshouderslaan in Den Haag is een van onze favoriete restaurants van de stad. Het staat reeds verschillende jaren vermeld in de Michelin Gids. Het interieur is strak en modern, maar ook wat koud. Het eten is zeer lekker. Wij persoonlijk houden van de Sashimi en de Sushi. Soms nemen we ook een warm gerecht zoals de Koningskrab of de Wagyu steak. De Wagyu steak is een traditioneel Japans rundvlees van gemasseerde koeien. Dit maakt het vlees veel malser.

The Quincy Market (Faneuil Hall Marketplace) in Boston is a mall in a historic building where they offer a large food selection. You find many stands with fish, meat, candy, drinks, fruit, cheeses, cakes.... I can really recommend this, everyone finds something they fancy.

Quincy Market (Faneuil Hall Marketplace) in Boston is een markthal in een historisch gebouw waar ze allerlei verschillende snacks aanbieden. Je vindt er veel standen met vlees, vis, snoepgoed, drankjes, fruit, kaas, taarten... Wij kunnen dit aan iedereen aanbevelen, hier vindt iedereen wel iets naar zijn smaak.

BXL, a Belgian restaurant in New York

We are from Belgium. We were for three weeks in the States and Canada and had the opportunity to eat in a Belgian restaurant in New York. This restaurant is very close to Time Square so after dinner you can see the famous lights and billboards. The restaurant is rather small but the dishes are big like in an American restaurant. Below you can see the Spaghetti and meatballs in tomato sauce. They also serve many Belgian beers. I had a Leffe from the tap. Cheers.

Wij ziin van Belgie. We waren drie weken in Canada en de Verenigde Staten en hadden de mogelijkheid in een Belgisch restaurant te gaan eten te New York. Dit restaurant is zeer dicht bij Time Square en na je avondeten kan je de lichtjes en reclameborden gaan bekijken. Het restaurant is klein maar de schotels groot zoals in een Amerikaans restaurant. Hieronder kan je een foto zien van de Spaghetti en de balletjes in tomatensaus. Ze serveren ook zeer veel Belgische bieren. Ik nam een Leffe van het vat. Proost.

Union Oyster House, The oldest restaurant of America, Boston

A friend from Munich recommended us this restaurant that exists since 1826. We absolutely wanted to try the stuffed lobster, a traditional Boston dish. In this restaurant you get a warm feeling. Al the furniture and the bars are in wood. You can eat an oyster at the oyster bar or have a drink at the second bar. This will kill the time when you wait for your table because this restaurant is extremely popular. We could enjoy the bar for one hour with a bottle of wine until our table was ready. We had an interesting conversation with a university dean and had a good stuffed lobster afterwards. You have to try it.

Een vriend uit Munchen heeft ons dit restaurant uit 1826 aanbevolen. We wilden absoluut de opgevulde kreeft, een traditioneel gerecht uit Boston proeven. Dit restaurant met zijn houten interieur en bars straalt warmte uit. Je kan een oester eten aan de oesterbar of van een drankje genieten aan de andere bar. Dit is noodzakelijk terwijl je wacht op je tafel want het restaurant is extreem populair. We hebben een uur genoten van onze fles wijn en een gezellig gesprek met een decaan van een universiteit tot onze tafel klaar was. We raden je aan dit restaurant te proberen.

The Red Lobster is a restaurant chain in the USA and Canada. They serve all kind of seafood and even have the exceptional meat dish for the non fish lovers of the guests. The quality is good and prices acceptable. Each time we are in North America we visit at least one of these restaurants.

The Red Lobster is een restaurantketen in de Verenigde Staten en Canada. Ze serveren allerlei soorten vis en schaaldieren en hebben zelfs de uitzonderlijke vleesschotel voor de niet vis liefhebbers onder ons. De kwaliteit is goed en de prijzen aanvaardbaar. Iedere keer als we in Noord Amerika zijn bezoeken we op zijn minst een van deze restaurants.

Wayne Gretzky's Restaurant, Toronto

In Toronto we had dinner in Wayne Gretzky's restaurant. Wayne is a famous ice hockey player who played for the New York Rangers. His restaurant is decorated in an ice hockey theme as you can see on the pictures below. They serve normal Canadian and American food. We had ribs, pizza and a pasta chicken dish. You have the possibility to eat in a normal dining area or in the bar area where each table has its own plasma TV. A pleasant experience.

In Toronto hebben ons avondmaal genuttigd in het restaurant van Wayne Gretzky. Wayne is een beroemde ijshockey speler van de New York Rangers. Zijn restaurant is ingericht met ijshockey thema's zoals je kan zien op onderstaande foto's. Ze serveren hier normaal Canadees en Amerikaans eten. We hebben gekozen voor ribbetjes, pizza en een pasta schotel met kip. Je hebt de mogelijkheid te eten in het gewone restaurant of in de bar waar iedere tafel zijn eigen plasma TV heeft. Een leuke ervaring.
