The new Audi A6 and sportive generation Quatro, Munich

Audi is introducing his new A6 limousine with the sportive generation quatro. They claim to drive this luxury car on all terrains and are going to prove it at Munich airport. They built an artificial hill with lift, and have the intension to drive these cars up and down the steep slope. It looks super impressive.

Audi introduceert de nieuwe A6 limousine met sportieve quatro generatie. In hun slogan claimen ze dat deze luxe wagen zich op alle terreinen kan begeven en willen dit ook bewijzen op de luchthaven van Munchen. Hier hebben ze een kunstmatige heuvel gebouwd waarop de wagens langs de steile helling op en neer zullen rijden. Het lijkt heel indrukwekkend.

Place and Palais Rihour in Lille

Place Rihour in Lille is a small square where Palais Rihour is loacted and many nice houses. The walls of some houses have decorations and masks, like on the first picture. In the Palais Rihour you now find the Tourism Office. For all the Belgians and beer lovers, there is a Leffe cafe on this square.

Place Rihour in Lille is een klein marktplaatsje waar het Rihour paleis is gelegen naast de vele mooie huizen. Sommige van deze huizen hebben als muurdecoratie maskers, zoals op de eerste foto. In het Rihour paleis is momenteel de toeristische dienst gevestigd. Voor alle Belgen en bier liefhebbers vind je hier een Leffe Cafe.

De Nievaert Cup te Klundert, Ballroom D-class

This was our first competition after an injury break of almost 4 months. The first round didn't go so well. We had problems with other couples on the floor. It was also the first time we had to dance the basic Tango but this gave us a good feeling. We were surprised to be placed directly in the semi final. The semi final and the final were a lot better. Our dancing improved round by round. We had high expectations but end the competition in place 6 out of 13 couples. We missed the price presentation because I had to catch my flight to Munich.

Dit was onze eerste competitie na een kwetsuurperiode van bijna 4 maanden. De eerste ronde ging niet zo goed. We hadden wat problemen met de andere paren op de vloer. Het was ook de eerste keer dat we de basis tango dansten, maar dit ging goed. We waren echter verbaast onmiddellijk doorgeplaatst te worden naar de halve finale. Tijdens de halve finale en de finale ging alles veel beter. Ons dansen verbeterde ronde na ronde. We hadden hoge verwachtingen voor onze finale plaatst maar we eindigden op plaats 6 van 13 paren. We bleven niet voor de prijsuitreiking daar Filip 's avonds nog naar München moest vliegen.

Amazing buildings around Place du Théâtre, Lille

On the Place du Théâtre in Lille we find the Chambre of Commerce with a Belfry. It is an amazing building completed in 1921 in the Neo Flemish style. We are from Flanders, it is really close to Lille but we have never heard of this style. But ok, we are no specialists. We must admit these flandrians have style, even in France. The other two very beautiful buidlings viewed from on this square are the Opera and the Carlton Hotel.

Op het Place du Théâtre in Lille vinden we de Kamer van Koophandel met zijn belfort. Dit is een ongelooflijk gebouw dat werd voltooid in 1921 in de Neo Vlaamse stijl. Wij zijn van Vlaanderen en dat is echt zeer dicht bij Lille maar we hebben nog nooit van deze stijl gehoord. Maar ok, wij zijn dan ook geen specialisten. We moeten toegeven, de Vlamingen hebben stijl, zelfs in Frankrijk. De andere twee mooie gebouwen die we zien van op dit plein zijn het Opera gebouw en het beroemde Carlton Hotel.

Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk (Church of Our Lady) Kortrijk

The Church of Our Lady in Kortrijk was built during the 13th century. The style is early gothic and in the gardens you find two nice statues. Next to the church there is a red building called the Artillery Tower that was used to store ammunition during the 14th century. But back to the church now. The interior church itself is in a baroque style with a lot of detail. We like the painting of Antoon van Dijck, the baptism area and the Golden spurs hanging on the ceiling next to the Lion of Flanders. We were welcomed in the church by a friendly elder who was preparing for the evening celebration. A nice detail to know, Guido Gezelle was Chaplain in this church from 1872 until 1889. This is a church you should certainly visit.

De Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk te Kortrijk werd gebouwd gedurende de 13de eeuw. De stijl is vroeg gotisch en in de tuinen vind je twee mooie standbeelden. Naast de kerk staat er een rood gebouw, de Artillerietoren, deze diende als munitie opslagplaats in de 14de eeuw. Maar laat ons terug gaan naar de kerk. Het interieur is in de barok stijl met veel details. In het bijzonder vonden we het schilderij van Antoon van Dijck, de doopvont en de Gulden sporen aan het plafond naast de Leeuw Van Vlaanderen, de meest indrukwekkende bezienswaardigheden. We werden verwelkomt door een vriendelijke ouderling die bezig was met de voorbereiding van de avondmis. Een interessant detail om te weten, Guido Gezelle was hier onderpastoor van 1872 tot 1889. De Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk is zeker een bezoekje waard.

Sint-Michielskerk, Kortrijk

The Sint-Michielskerk in Kortrijk is located on the Sint-Michielsplein and was built in 1611. In this church they honour the image (statue) of Our Lady from Groeninge. This is also displayed with a banner on the front facade. It is a simple church but very special in its layout. All the church visitors face each other to the centre where the altar is placed. This is the first time we see this.

De Sint-Michielskerk in Kortrijk is gelegen aan het Sint-Michielsplein en werd gebouwd in 1611. In deze kerk vereert men het beeldje van Onze Lieve Vrouw van Groeninge. Dit wordt ook weergegeven op een spandoek aan de voorgevel. Het is een eenvoudige kerk maar ze is zeer speciaal in zijn opstelling. Alle gelovigen zitten naar elkaar toe gericht met het altaar in het midden van de cirkel. Dit is voor het eerst dat we zoiets zien.

Shopping in Kortrijk, Steenpoort, Lange Steenstraat and K

It was not really the intention to go shopping in Kortrijk but we arrived in the Steenpoort and Lange Steenstraat and were surprised of the many interesting shops. It was a cold day but fun to walk in this area. Kortrijk has a new and modern shopping centre called "K". It looks very nice but we were only 5 minutes in the mall and a security guard requested us to carry our small dog (for security reasons). We did so. A few minutes later on an other floor we took a picture of the Christmas decorations for our blog. Again a security guard walked up to us and insisted to put away the camera. You are not allowed to take pictures without the authorisation of the management. Well this was the last drop, we immediately left the mall. They still have to learn a lot on customer care and friendliness in "K". This shopping center "K" we can not recommend.

Het was niet de bedoeling om te gaan winkelen in Kortrijk, maar toen we de Steenpoort en de Lange Steenstraat doorwandelden, waren we verrast zoveel interessante winkels te zien. Het was een koude dag, maar leuk om hier te wandelen. Kortrijk heeft een nieuw shopping center dat "K" noemt. Het ziet er zeer goed uit maar we waren nog geen 5 minuten in het winkelcentrum en een veiligheidsagent verzocht ons onze kleine hond op de arm te dragen (om veiligheidsredenen). We hebben dit dan ook maar gedaan. Een paar minuten later, op een ander verdiep, willen we een foto nemen van de kerst decoratie voor onze blog. Terug komt er een veiligheidsagent naar ons toe, we mogen geen foto's nemen zonder toestemming van het management. Dit is de laatste druppel. We verlaten onmiddellijk het winkelcentrum. Hier in "K" moeten ze nog heel veel leren over dienstverlening en klantvriendelijkheid. Dit winkelcentrum kunnen we zeker niet aanbevelen.

Basilica de Notre Dame de la Treille, Lille

The Basilica de Notre Dame de la Treille in Lille originates from 1854. The construction works were financed by private people but the costs were so high that it was not possible to build a church tower. From the side wing you see the Neo-gotic style of the church but the front is very modern and looks a lot nicer. Since there was no money to build a proper church tower, the city of Lille decided in 1874 to place a stand alone tower alongside the church with the carillon in. This was supposed to be a temporary construction but is now a protected building. We were most impressed with the front facade of the church. It was a pity that it was not open on the Saturday. In our opinion a church should always be open to the public.

De Basilique van de Notre Dame de la Treille in Lille dateert van 1854. De constructie werken werden gefinancierd door de rijke burgers van Lille. Op een zeker moment was het geld opgesoupeerd en kon men geen kerktorens meer plaatsen. De stad heeft dan maar beslist naast de kerk een toren met beiaard te bouwen in 1874. Oorspronkelijk was dit voorzien als tijdelijk gebouw maar is nu een beschermd monument. We waren het meest onder de indruk van de voorgevel die veel moderner is dan de Neo-Gotische stijl van de zijgevel. Het was spijtig dat de kerk niet open was op zaterdag. Naar onze mening moet een kerk altijd open zijn voor het publiek.

New York New York Casino in Las Vegas, the coaster town

New York New York is a special hotel. It tries to give an impression of the skyline of New York with the Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and Brooklyn Bridge. I have to admit that it is really well done. Around the hotel complex, they have a roller coaster. Next to the pictures, we added a video of the full coaster ride, recorded from the 24th floor of the Excalibur hotel. Inside the hotel you find also a Statue of Liberty but made of candy. This was our last Las Vegas article. It will be a few years before we go back.

New York New York is een speciaal hotel. Het probeert een weerspiegeling te zijn van de skyline van New York met het Vrijheidsbeeld, de Empire State, het Chrysler gebouw en Brooklyn Bridge. Ik moet toegeven dat het wel goed gedaan is. Rond het hotel complex rijdt er een achtbaan. In additie tot alle foto's hebben we ook een video van de volledige achtbaan rit toegevoegd. Dit werd opgenomen op het 24ste verdiep van het Excalibur hotel. Binnen in het casino vind je ook een vrijheidsbeeld maar volledig uit snoepgoed gemaakt. Dit was echter ons laatste Las Vegas artikel. Het zal enkele jaren duren voor we terug gaan.

Happy New Year from the Christmas Ferris wheel in Lille

Our Christmas greetings and a Happy New Year to all visitors of this blog. On the Grand Place of the cold Lille, a French city, they placed a giant Ferris wheel with Christmas decorations. A good start of the New Year which I certainly want to publish now. I am still a few articles behind from our previous holiday but first we want to write our best intensions for 2011. To all bloggers, keep on writing your articles and exchanging information about so many interesting places in the world. We hope you enjoy our posts and we will try to write 300 entries in 2011. All the best wishes for 2011.

Onze kerstwensen en een gelukkig Nieuwjaar voor alle bezoekers van deze blog. Op de Grand Place van het koude Lille, een stadje in Frankrijk, hebben ze een reuzenrad in kerstsfeer geplaatst. Een goede start van het nieuwe jaar en dat willen we zeker vandaag publiceren.
