Escape from the heat in Central Park, New York

It was extremely hot when we were in New York, around 38° Celsius in the shadow. Luckily we don't feel uncomfortable in such weather conditions. The pond you see below was full with turtles. Many people went for a walk in Central Park, look for some shadow, sunbathing, or take the kids to the carnival fair. We were on our way via the park to the New York opera building and fountain.

Het was extreem heet in New York, op die dag haalden we temperaturen van 38° Celsius in de schaduw. Gelukkig voelen wij ons niet ongemakkelijk in zo'n temperaturen. Het meertje dat je hieronder ziet zat vol schildpadden. Veel mensen gaan dan naar Central Park voor te wandelen, op zoek naar wat schaduw, zonnebaden of met de kinderen naar de kermis. Wij daarentegen waren op weg via Central Park naar het opera gebouw en zijn fontein.

Times Square, fascinating New York

Times Square is one of the most fascinating places in New York. During day time you see the non electronic billboards and advertisements. The electronic screens make a bigger impression when it's dark. In the evening the Square come to live as you can see on the pictures it is really crowded. We recommend you visiting this place when it is dark. The Square was named Times Square after the headquarters of the New York Times which is located here. It is also the place to be celebrating New Years Eve.

Times Square is 1 van de meest fascinerende plaatsen van New York. Gedurende de dag zie je ook de niet elektronische reclameborden en advertenties. De elektronische schermen maken een grote indruk op je wanneer het donker wordt. 's Avonds komt het plein tot leven en is het druk, zoals je kan zien op de foto's. Het plein werd Times Square genaamd door het plaatsen van het hoofdkwartier van de "New York Times" op nummer 1. Het is ook de meest beroemde plek om Oudejaarsavond te vieren in New York.

The best views of New York , from Top of the Rock

The views of New York from Top of The Rock on Rockefeller Plaza are just amazing. On the 70th floor you can see on the one side Manhattan and the Empire State Building. On the other side you see Central Park. It is only 260m high but we personally enjoyed this more than most of the other top buildings we did in the world. It is not as famous as the Empire State Building but I would have a lot of difficulties recommending one above the other. Visit New York twice and go to both observation decks.

Het uitzicht op "Top of The Rock" in "Rockefeller Plaza" is ongelooflijk. Op het 70ste verdiep kan je aan de ene zijde Manhattan zien met de "Empire State Building". Aan de andere kant zie je "Central Park". Het is maar 260m hoog maar persoonlijk hebben we hier meer van genoten dan de meeste van de andere top hoogste gebouwen in de wereld. Het is niet zo beroemd als de "Empire State Building" maar ik zou het zeer moeilijk vinden de ene boven de andere aan te bevelen. De oplossing is bezoek New York twee maal en ga naar beide.

Empire State Building, the highest building in New York

The Empire State Building (381m high) was the tallest and is now again the tallest building in New York after the destruction of the WTC Twin Towers. It's located on the corner of 34th street and Fifth avenue. We find it amazing that this enormous tower was build in 1931 and is now almost 80 years old. This is really unbelievable. Last time we were in New York we visited the sky deck. We can recommend this to everyone.

De "Empire State Building" (381m hoog) was het hoogste en is terug het hoogste gebouw in New York na de vernieling van de WTC Twin Torens. Het is gelegen op de hoek van Fifth avenue and 34th street. We vinden het verbazingwekkend dat deze enorm hoge toren werd gebouwd in 1931 en is nu bijna 80 jaar oud. Het is echt ongelooflijk. De laatste keer dat we in New York waren hebben we het Sky Deck bezocht. We kunnen dit aan iedereen aanbevelen.

Walking through Wall Street, New York

On our trip to New York, we had to visit Wall Street. Each day we hear about the most famous stock exchange in the world. In fact, it is a small narrow street with impressive buildings and at the end of the street you see the Trinity church. We were not alone, together with us many visitors wanted to see the Stock Exchange which was decorated with an extremely large American flag.

Op onze uitstap naar New York, moesten we een bezoek brengen aan Wall Street. Iedere dag horen we van de beroemste aandelenbeurs in de wereld. In feite, is dit een korte, smalle straat met impressionante gebouwen en op het einde van de straat zie je de Trinity kerk. We waren echter niet alleen, samen met ons waren er veel bezoekers die het beursgebouw wilden zien. De beurs was gedecoreerd met een enorme Amerikaanse vlag.

The Cathedral Of Saint Patrick, New York

The Cathedral of Saint Patrick has a capacity of 2.400 people and is located on 460 Madison Avenue, an amazing sight, a historical building next to a skyscraper. The Gothic cathedral is from the mid 19th century and with its height of 101 meters it looks small compared to the building next to it. It was built in only 21 years, which is exceptional. At the entrance we were welcomed by several people from the parish. They were very friendly and helpful. An impressive cathedral in a modern city.

De kathedraal van Sint Patrick heeft een capaciteit van 2.400 gelovigen en ligt op 460 Madison Avenue, een ongelooflijk zicht, een historisch gebouw, naast een wolkenkrabber. De Gotische kathedraal werd gebouwd in het midden van de 19de eeuw en met zijn hoogte van 101 meter lijkt ze klein in vergelijking met het gebouw ernaast. De bouw duurde amper 21 jaar, en dat is uitzonderlijk. Aan de ingang werden we begroet door verschillende parochianen. Ze waren zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Een indrukwekkende kathedraal in een moderne stad.

Staying at the most famous hotel of New York, The Waldorf Astoria

The last time we were in New York, we stayed in an unknown small hotel that was very expensive in return for low quality. We were disappointed and decided that it would never happen again. The next trip to New York would again be expensive but in a famous and good hotel. We selected the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and were pleased with our choice. The hotel is located centrally, is elegant, has style, the service is very good, the rooms are clean and the beds excellent. The Waldorf Astoria can be recommended.

De laatste keer dat we in New York waren, hebben gelogeerd in een onbekend klein hotel. Het was duur en we kregen slechte kwaliteit. We waren teleurgesteld en beslisten dat dit ons nooit meer opnieuw zou overkomen. Onze volgende uitstap naar New York zou terug duur zijn maar in een beroemd en goed hotel. We hebben het Waldorf Astoria Hotel gekozen en waren hier blij mee. Het hotel is centraal gelegen, elegant, heeft stijl, de dienstverlening is zeer goed, de kamer proper en de bedden uitstekend. De Waldorf Astoria is een aanrader.

BXL, a Belgian restaurant in New York

We are from Belgium. We were for three weeks in the States and Canada and had the opportunity to eat in a Belgian restaurant in New York. This restaurant is very close to Time Square so after dinner you can see the famous lights and billboards. The restaurant is rather small but the dishes are big like in an American restaurant. Below you can see the Spaghetti and meatballs in tomato sauce. They also serve many Belgian beers. I had a Leffe from the tap. Cheers.

Wij ziin van Belgie. We waren drie weken in Canada en de Verenigde Staten en hadden de mogelijkheid in een Belgisch restaurant te gaan eten te New York. Dit restaurant is zeer dicht bij Time Square en na je avondeten kan je de lichtjes en reclameborden gaan bekijken. Het restaurant is klein maar de schotels groot zoals in een Amerikaans restaurant. Hieronder kan je een foto zien van de Spaghetti en de balletjes in tomatensaus. Ze serveren ook zeer veel Belgische bieren. Ik nam een Leffe van het vat. Proost.

Free attraction in New York, Staten Island Ferry

In days that everything becomes more and more expensive, you still find things to do that are cheap. The Staten Island Ferry is one of these things. The ferry services are available for everyone, and for free. You don't even need a ticket. On the trip, you get very nice views of the skyline of New York, you pass the Statue of Liberty, and see the harbour. On Staten Island you can go for a walk if you feel like it or return to Manhattan. Ferries sail very regularly.

In dagen dat alles duurder en duurder wordt, vind je toch nog leuke en goedkope uitstappen. De Staten Island Ferry dienst in New York is 1 van die mogelijkheden. De ferry tocht is gratis en toegankelijk voor iedereen. Je hebt zelfs geen kaartje nodig. Tijdens de overtocht kan je genieten van het mooie panoramische zicht op Manhattan, het vrijheidsbeeld, en de haven van New York. Op Staten Island kan je gaan wandelen of gewoon beslissen terug te varen. Ferries varen heel regelmatig.
