The new Audi A6 and sportive generation Quatro, Munich

Audi is introducing his new A6 limousine with the sportive generation quatro. They claim to drive this luxury car on all terrains and are going to prove it at Munich airport. They built an artificial hill with lift, and have the intension to drive these cars up and down the steep slope. It looks super impressive.

Audi introduceert de nieuwe A6 limousine met sportieve quatro generatie. In hun slogan claimen ze dat deze luxe wagen zich op alle terreinen kan begeven en willen dit ook bewijzen op de luchthaven van Munchen. Hier hebben ze een kunstmatige heuvel gebouwd waarop de wagens langs de steile helling op en neer zullen rijden. Het lijkt heel indrukwekkend.

The first snow on December 1, Munich

It is only December 1 and the snow is already there. In Munich it kept on snowing the whole day and this was the result. Cars completely covered in snow. Luckily my flight back home to Amsterdam was not cancelled. Grab your warmest cloths, if this is a taste of what we will get during the winter, you will need them.

Het is pas 1 december en de sneeuw is reeds daar. In München bleef het maar de hele dag sneeuwen en dit was het resultaat. De auto's waren volledig ondergesneeuwd. Gelukkig werd mijn terugvlucht naar Amsterdam niet geannuleerd. Grijp je warmste kledij, als dit een voorsmaakje is voor deze winter, zal je het nodig hebben.

Stiftskirche Stuttgart, a modern touch

This is a church with many different styles. You clearly see several towers from the outside and the interior combines classic and modern elements. The most impressive part of the church is it ceiling. The glass triangle elements give it a modern touch. The fire glass in black, white and grey colours is marvellous. When you compare it to the normally very colourful glass as show in one of the pictures, it gives you again this modern feeling.

Dit is een kerk in veel verschillende stijlen. Aan de buitenkant zie je verschillende torens en binnen worden klassieke en moderne elementen met elkaar gecombineerd. Het meest indrukwekkende is het glazen plafond met zijn driehoekige elementen. Het brandglas in zwart, wit en grijs is fantastisch. Als je dit vergelijkt met het kleur volle veel voorkomende brandglas, krijg je terug dit moderne gevoel.

General Impressions of Stuttgart and the Schloss Park

Stuttgart is a green city. The Schloss parks are so big you could spend hours in them. At the middle point of the city near the Altes Schloss you find the beginning of the park. From there you have a view on the television tower of Stuttgart, which is located in the hills. Walking through the park, you go direction central station where many new buildings have been erected. One of these buildings is the Landesbank (Central Bank) which has a very special entrance via a walking bridge. In the next part of the Schloss park you find many flower beds and fountains.

Stuttgart is een groene stad. Het Schloss park is zo groot dat je er uren kan in doorbrengen. In het hart van de stad, naast het Altes Schloss vind je het begin van het park. Van deze kant heb je een mooi zicht op de televisietoren van Stuttgart. Deze ligt meer zuidelijk in de heuvels. Je zet je wandeling verder richting centraal station waar vele nieuwe moderne gebouwen zijn opgetrokken. Een van deze gebouwen is de Landesbank met zijn zeer speciale loopbrug als ingang. In het volgende deel van het park (midden park) vind je veel bloemen en fonteinen.

The Römer at Römerberg in Frankfurt

The Römerberg in Frankfurt is a picturesque square with old houses. On the first picture, you see the Römer, which is already 600 years the town hall of Frankfurt. Its facade is holds statues decorated with golden elements. In the middle of the square stands a statue fountain combination. The church is the Old Saint Nicolas church that dates from the 13th century. The church has a sober interior but houses a carillon of 47 clocks. This square is one of the most famous places of Frankfurt.

De Römerberg in Franfurt is een pittoresk pleintje met oude huizen. Op de eerste foto zie je de Römer, dat reeds 600 jaar het stadhuis van Frankfurt is. Aan de facade hangen standbeelden die met gouden elementen versierd zijn. In het midden van het plein staat een standbeeld, fontein combinatie. De kerk is de Oude St. Nicolas kerk die stamt uit de 13de eeuw. De kerk heeft een heel sober interieur maar bezit een beiaard met 47 klokken. Dit plein is de meest beroemde bezienswaardigheid van de stad.

General Impressions, Shopping in Frankfurt

Amusement is te vinden op iedere hoek van de straat, neem je foto met personages uit Star Trek of geniet van muziek van goede straatartiesten. Saint Bartholomew Cathedral, Frankfurt

On our way to the Römer, we passed by the Saint Bartholomew Cathedral. Saint Bartholomew was an apostle and in this church they keep a relic of his scull. The church was build in the 14th century but also completely destroyed during World War II. In 1950, this 95m high church was rebuild. The interior is sober but the art pieces are heavily decorated. The organ is extremely large.

Op weg naar de Römer, zijn we de Sint Bartholomeus kathedraal gepasseerd. Sint Bartholomeus was een apostel en in deze kerk wordt een stukje van zijn schedel bewaard. De kerk werd gebouwd in de 14de eeuw maar was ook volledig vernietigd gedurende Wereldoorlog II. In 1950 werd deze 95m hoge kerk opnieuw opgebouwd. Het interieur is sober, maar de kunstwerken zwaar gedecoreerd. Het orgel is enorm.

Alte Oper, concert hall in Frankfurt

When we are away for business or like now for a new suit, we always try to visit the city. The "Alte Oper" is one of the most beautiful buildings of Frankfurt. It was perfectly rebuild during the seventies and opened its doors in 1981 as the main concert hall. It has a capacity of more than 3.000 people and offers a concert selection of classical music, Jazz, Pop and more. Originally the opera house dates from 1880 but was completely destroyed during World War II.

Wanneer we weg zijn voor zaken of zoals nu voor een nieuw kostuum, trachten we altijd de stad te bezoeken. De "Alte Oper" is 1 van de mooiste gebouwen van Frankfurt. Het is tot in de perfectie herbouwd in de jaren zeventig en opende zijn deuren als grootste concert gebouw van de stad in 1981. Het heeft een capaciteit van meer dan 3.000 toeschouwers en biedt een grote variatie van concerten aan in klassieke muziek, Jazz, Pop en nog vele andere stijlen. Oorspronkelijk dateert het opera huis van 1880 maar werd volledig vernield tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Going to Frankfurt for my new Tail Suit

Thursday evening we drove to Frankfurt for the fitting of my new dance tail suit from Very Žofčin. He is one of the best tailors in the world for ballroom dancers and makes tail suits for Sascha Karabey, Emanuel Valeri, Marat Gimaev and many other top dancers. Also top dancers from the Netherlands like Herman Lak and Dennis Voermans go there. I am very pleased with the suit, it fits and feels perfect. The design and the stability of the back are hopefully going to contribute to our competition results. We will give it a try tomorrow in the NADB competition of Oldenzaal.

Donderdagavond zijn we naar Frankfurt gereden voor het passen van mijn nieuw ballroom rokkostuum van Very Žofčin. Hij is 1 van de beste kleermakers in de wereld voor ballroom dansen en maakt rokkostuums voor Sascha Karabey, Emanuel Valeri, Marat Gimaev en vele andere top dansers. Ook de Nederlandse top dansers Herman Lak en Dennis Voermans zijn er klant. Ik ben zeer blij met het pak, het zit perfect en het voelt zeer goed aan. Het ontwerp en de stabiliteit van de rug gaan waarschijnlijk bijdragen aan betere competitie resultaten. We gaan het morgen testen in de NADB competitie te Oldenzaal.

Castle and Fountain on Schlossplatz, Stuttgart

Like every year in August we were in Stuttgart for the GOC Ballroom Dancing. During some of the morning sessions we grabbed the opportunity to visit the city of Stuttgart. Below you see the Schlossplatz with its castle, fountain and music pavilion. The first picture is not the castle but a shopping gallery. In fact all buildings on this square are impressive.

Zoals elk jaar in augustus, waren we in Stuttgart voor de GOC Ballroom dansen. Tijdens sommige ochtend sessies hebben we de kans gegrepen Stuttgart te bezoeken. Hieronder zie je foto's van de Schlossplatz met zijn kasteel, fontein en het muziek paviljoen. De eerste foto is niet het kasteel, maar een winkelgallerij. In feite zijn alle gebouwen op dit plein indrukwekkend.

The world biggest dance tournament, GOC 2010, Stuttgart

In August we are always in Stuttgart to visit the German Open Championships of Ballroom dancing. This has now become the biggest tournament in the world with approximately 4.000 couples participating. This is the tournament we recommend to all ballroom dancers. From the IDSF ranking list all top couples are present. We didn't participate because the level is far too high for us but we certainly enjoyed all the top dancing. Many couples from The Netherlands danced very well. Below you see two pictures of the Professional Rising Star competition in which Herman & Michèle Lak ended in fifth place. Unfortunately the organisation of the GOC didn't allow us to publish any videos so we will have to wait a bit until the next IDSF compilation of Dutch dancers. For all of you interested the next German Open will be from 16-20 August 2011.

In augustus zijn we altijd in Stuttgart voor de German Open Championships Ballroom dansen. Het is nu het grootste ballroom tornooi ter wereld met ongeveer 4.000 deelnemende paren. Dit is het tornooi dat we aan iedereen kunnen aanbevelen. Alle top paren van de IDSF ranking zijn aanwezig. Wijzelf hebben niet deelgenomen daar we hier nog niet goed genoeg voor zijn, maar we hebben enorm genoten van dit topniveau. Heel veel deelnemende paren van Nederland hebben zeer goed gedanst. Hieronder zie je 2 foto's van de Professional Rising Star competitie waarin Herman & Michèle Lak een fantastische 5de plaats hebben bereikt. Spijtig genoeg laat de GOC ons niet toe videos te publiceren, het zal dus nog even wachten worden op de volgende compilatie van Nederlandse dansers op een IDSF. Indien je interesse hebt in dit tornooi, de volgende editie is van 16-20 augustus 2011.
